Sermon
A note from Pastor regarding his sermon:
In the weeks of the Easter season following our celebration of the great news of Christ’s resurrection, we may appropriately start to wonder about how Jesus’ disciples – and how we, ourselves – are supposed to live once we’ve received the greatest of all possible news: that our God has fulfilled His promise to rescue us from our sins, so that we no longer need to fear death, but can instead look forward to everlasting life with Him in paradise.
Our Gospel reading for this week may show us one way the disciples tried to continue their lives after they witnessed their living and resurrected Lord: they returned to what their lives looked like before they met Him and witnessed His saving work. But once they’ve seen their salvation accomplished by Christ’s death and resurrection, it really isn’t possible for things to go back to the way they thought they were. The disciples – including us – must learn how to live as Christians now that the good news of God’s salvation has been revealed to us.
