HYMNS FOR THE DAY

Sermon

Please read the note below from Pastor Woodhouse regarding his sermon:

Toward the end of the Epiphany season, we noticed together that several of our readings from Scripture have been powerful statements of God’s Law. For example, Paul told us about the love we are to have for one another, and Jesus commanded us not to seek revenge but to bless even our enemies and those who take from us. We know quite well how badly we fail to follow God’s commandments to us!

But just as we remembered on those days of Epiphany, we are comforted this week to remember that Jesus perfectly fulfills the Law. He loves us as we were always supposed to love one another. He blesses us even when we were His enemies. And He leads a life of perfect obedience to the Father so that He can be the perfect sacrifice we need to atone for our sins and once again be sons and daughters of God. As we recall the story of Jesus’ temptation by Satan in the wilderness, we celebrate: Christ succeeds where we have failed!
