Sermon
Alleluia! Christ is risen! As we might imagine, the tremendous good news that Jesus had risen from the dead led to significant confusion, bewilderment, and delight among the disciples. Reading through each of the Gospel accounts of the events of Easter gives one an impression that there are so many people hearing the good news in so many different ways at various times and places that it’s difficult to piece together a timeline that fully accommodates every detail and event.
But this amazing story in the Gospel accounts gives us a wonderful opportunity each year to consider the significance of the details that are presented in each of the Easter stories the evangelists relate to us. And this year, Luke’s Gospel presents us with a detail that is unique to his account: There are two angels that appear to the women that have come to find the tomb empty, and they begin their announcement of the Lord’s resurrection with this question: “Why do you seek the living among the dead?”
