Sermon
Please read the note below from Pastor Woodhouse regarding his sermon:
For the second week in a row, our Scripture readings turn our attention to the work of the prophets of the Old and New Testaments. Last week, we heard about the dangers prophets face from their fellow men as they carry out their God-given vocation: the message they carry for God will not be popular, and they will face the anger and violence of men. But we also saw the importance of the full and complete Word of God – that the true severity of the Law is necessary if we are to understand the true grace of the Gospel.
This week, we hear more about the consequences from God if a prophet shies away from doing his appointed task. Ezekiel is warned that he will share in the blame for unrepentant sinners if he fails to warn them about their sin. But we might also marvel at what can be accomplished through the work of a prophet if he remains faithful to his calling and permits God to work through His faithfulness!
